About us
About us

Mafemo, so named because our products are as natural as breathing. This is the bottom line of who we are as a company. Founded in 2015, by two hardworking, enterprising young women who realised the potential of nature’s bounty in resource-rich Zimbabwe, Mafemo is also about empowering rural women.

Mafura seed-harvesting was the most fundamental investment of the two founders who spent endless hours hand-picking, sorting and later processing the harvest. This hands-on experience means there is very little that is not known to us about the processing of our products, which ensures top quality products. Outsourcing the harvesting process came later and is now the mainstay of Mafemo Trading’s social development and community-based partnerships. Social development, organic processes and sustainability are the essence of who we are. We work with organised rural women’s groups drawn from natural regions 4 and 5 where there is little rainfall to sustain conventional agriculture. This partnership provides a source of work and income-generation for the community

Vision
Vision

Our vision as Mafemo Trading is to be the leading independent producer of high quality natural basic personal care products from organic sources thereby ensuring end-product excellence. Our oils are 100% natural, pure and unrefined. We ensure that no nutrients are lost during processing. As a company we aim for continuous self-development and improvement in terms of processing, to provide better, superior products in their most beneficial natural form. Our goal is to strengthen our partnerships with the communities in which we work by initiating and encouraging development through sustainable livelihood projects, paying fair and equitable prices.

Above all, we promise honesty and integrity

Community
Community

Community is at the heart and drive of projects Mafemo Trading undertakes. We believe in social development through promoting sustainable harvesting methods of indigenous species in the specific regions. We have built synergies with Bio-Innovation Zimbabwe in order to promote and market under-utilised species and embark on sustainable livelihood programmes in areas such as Mwenenzi, Silobela, Gokwe and Muzarabani. We are guided by principles of Fairtrade and Access and Benefit Sharing.

Our Work

Our Way

  • Forest
See More Our seeds are sourced from within their natural habitat. Seed-pickers are contracted from the local communities and labour prices are agreed on through a mutually beneficial bargaining process.
  • Community
See More When harvesting is complete, pickers congregate at the group buying point. Here the first stage of quality control is initiated as seed is closely examined for yield value. The produce is weighed and harvesters are remunerated there and then.
  • Factory
See More At the factory the seeds are weighed, graded and sorted for oil extraction. Sorting is carried out manually to ensure only top quality seeds make it to extraction. This is a labor-intensive process that is done with care and heart and soul. This is the seal of our integrity.
We use a cold press for oil extraction in order to keep the nutrients from the oils in their purest and best form. We then filter and decant. Every batch of oil produced is lab tested for mould, yeast and bacteria and a Certificate of Analysis is issued, this process is outsourced before packaging and dispatching to various clients.
